Ninth-inning rally lifts BU over Mustangs, 6-5

OMAHA, Neb. -- Kyle Kinman's walk-off single capped a three-run ninth inning as the 17th-ranked Bellevue University baseball team rallied for a 6-5 win over Morningside College Tuesday afternoon at Westgate Field. 

Kinman finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Nate Mullins went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Charlie Krueger was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Devin Ferguson also registered multiple hits, going 2-for-3 at the plate. 

An RBI single by Mullins gave the Bruins an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Mustangs answered with two runs in the top of the second on a pair of bases-loaded walks, giving MC a 2-1 advantage.

Kinman tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third on an RBI single that scored Zack Clark from second. 

Bellevue gave up an unearned run in the fifth and an RBI single by Cole Chapin in the sixth as the Mustangs grabbed a 4-2 lead. 

An RBI double by Krueger in the bottom of the sixth sliced the MC margin to 4-3.

Another RBI single by Chapin gave the Mustangs a 5-3 edge in the top of the eighth frame. 

The Bruins led off the bottom of the ninth with consecutive singles by Levi Cartas and Ferguson before an error by Mustang pitcher Nick Weeter and a passed ball allowed BU to tie the contest at 5-5. After a pair of walks loaded the bases, Kinman ended the game with a walk-off single, giving the Bruins the dramatic 6-5 victory. 

The Bruins (20-10-2) will travel to York, Neb. this Friday-Saturday, April 4-5 for a four-game conference series at York College. Friday's doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday's twinbill will commence at 1 p.m. Morningside fell to 11-16 on the season with the loss.
