Midland earns 9-2 win over No. 10 Bruins

FREMONT, Neb. -- The Midland University baseball team scored nine unanswered runs as the Warriors claimed a 9-2 victory over 10th-ranked Bellevue University Wednesday night in non-conference action at Moller Field.

Bellevue fell to 18-7-2 on the season with the loss. 

Midland, who defeated Bellevue, 5-2, on Feb. 17 in Fremont, improved to 21-9 and has won seven-straight games. 

The Bruins struck first in the opening inning on Nate Mullins' RBI groundout that scored Devin Ferguson from third.

MU scored four runs on three hits and took advantage of a Bruin error to take a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

The Warriors scored their fifth run on a wild pitch by BU reliever Stephan Meyer and Garrett Mills added an RBI single to give MU a 6-1 lead in the fifth.

Midland added a seventh run in the seventh inning after Jake Loftus successfully stole home.

A two-run single by Vinnie Orsi increased the MU lead to 9-1 in the bottom of the eighth frame.

Mullins scored BU's second run in the top of the ninth on a passed ball after leading off the inning with a single, making the final, 9-2. 

Leland Tilley suffered the loss and fell to 1-2 on the season after allowing four runs on four hits with three strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work.

MU used nine pitchers in the win.

The Bruins will return to Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Friday-Saturday, March 28-29 when they play at 16th-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University (27-5, 4-0 MCAC). Both doubleheaders are slated for a noon start in Bartlesville, Okla.
