Bruins, Royals tie, 5-5

LAKE WALES, Fla. -- Bellevue University and Warner University tied 5-5 Monday afternoon in nonconference action at Royals Field. The game ended in a tie after nine complete innings due to darkness.

With the tie, Bellevue moved to 6-5-1 overall while Warner is now 9-11-1.

WU got on the board first, scoring on a Bruin throwing error to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

The Royals made it 3-0 in the second on a two-run single by Justin Burgess. Burgess scored later in the inning on a passed ball giving WU a 4-0 advantage. 

A sacrifice fly to left field by Galli Cribbs scored Bryce Kelly to pull BU to within three runs at 4-1 in the top of the third frame. 

Colby Fitzgerald's RBI double down the left field line cut the WU lead to 4-2 in the fourth. 

Kyle Kinman's sacrifice fly to left field plated Kelly, to slice the Royal advantage to 4-3 in the fifth. 

The Bruins took their first lead of the game in the sixth inning after Mark Medalia's RBI double scored Zack Clark and a sacrifice fly by Fitzgerald.

WU tied the game in the bottom of the eighth after a bases-loaded walk.

The game ended after nine innings as cloudy conditions forced the contest to end in a tie, 5-5.

Kelly went 2-for-2 with two runs scored while Cribbs added three hits and Fitzgerald tallied two RBIs.

Bruin pitchers Stephan Meyer, Sean Felt and Leland Tilley combined for seven strikeouts.

The BU baseball team will return to action when they participate in the Warner Invitational on March 6-8.
