Baseball sweeps doubleheader at Webber International, 7-1, 2-0

BABSON PARK, Fla. -- The Bellevue University baseball team defeated Webber International University by scores of 7-1 and 2-0 in a nonconference doubleheader Saturday at Heart of Florida Field.

Bellevue, who is ranked No. 14 in the NAIA, improved to 4-5 while Webber International dropped to 10-12 overall.

The Bruins will play at third-ranked Embry-Riddle (Fla.) Aeronautical University at 5:00 p.m. CST tomorrow (March 2).

The Bruins outhit WIU 15-4 as they posted the 7-1 win in the opener. The 15 hits is a season-high.

Kyle Kinman went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and also tossed a complete game with nine strikeouts to improve to 1-1 on the season.

BU took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Levi Cartas and an RBI single by Kinman. The Bruins scored their third run of the inning on a fielding error that allowed Kinman to cross home plate.

Joe Mancuso put the Bruins up by four runs with a two-out RBI single in the top of the fourth.

BU added a run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth inning before WIU scored its lone run of the game on a Bruin error in the bottom of the sixth for the game's final scoring.

Warriors starting pitcher Josh Ganus took the loss and fell to 2-3 on the season. Ganus recorded seven strikeouts in six innings of work.

Bellevue 2, Webber International 0

Rory Young held WIU without a hit until the fifth inning and the Bruins scored a pair of runs in the opening frame to win, 2-0.

Young registered five strikeouts as he moved to 1-1 on the mound. The senior gave up just two hits in five innings of work.

Sean Felt earned his second save out of the bullpen and recorded four strikeouts in two innings.

Mancuso drew a bases-loaded walk for the first run of the contest and Tyler Blood followed with a run-scoring single for the only runs of the game.

Benjamin Feinman dropped to 2-2 after giving up both runs for the Warriors on three hits and two walks in 5.2 innings.
