Bellevue picks up first win of the season, blank No. 7 Sterling, 4-0

STERLING - Kan. -- The 14th-ranked Bellevue University baseball team (1-4) picked up its first victory of the season after defeating No. 7 Sterling College (8-3), 4-0, Friday afternoon at Warrior Field in nonconference action.

The Bruins outhit the Warriors by an 8-1 margin. This marks the fourth time in five games that BU has registered more hits than its opponent.

BU was led offensively by Kyle Kinman who went 3-for-4.

The Bruins took advantage of two SC errors and used RBIs by Galli Cribbs, Nate Mullins and Joe Mancuso to take a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning.

BU added to its lead on Aaron Brasher's two-out RBI double that scored Cribbs from first base in the top of the eighth.

Starting pitcher Brennan Henry (1-0) notched the win after holding SC to just one hit in six innings of work with eight strikeouts while Steve Sarcone pitched three innings in the relief, with five strikeouts to earn the save.

The Warriors' Steven Cazares suffered the loss and dropped to 1-2 on the season. Cazares gave up three runs on six hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings.

The Bruins will conclude their three-game series against the Warriors tomorrow (Feb. 22) with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
