Midland scores five unanswered runs, edge Bruins, 5-2

FREMONT, Neb. -- Midland University scored the final five runs to defeat the 14th-ranked Bellevue University baseball team, 5-2, Monday evening at Moller Field in nonconference action.

With the win, Midland improved to 4-2 while Bellevue dropped to 0-4 this season.

BU struck first on Galli Cribbs' two-out two-run double that scored Zack Clark and Tyler Blood in the second inning.

The Warriors used a solo home run by Ian Nick and a two-run home run by Jake Loftus to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth. 

MU added to its lead in the seventh inning after a pair of bases-loaded hit batters by Bruins' relief pitcher Sean Felt to take a three-run lead, 5-2.

The Bruins outhit the Warriors by five, 9-4, and the two teams combined to leave 21 runners on base.

Despite holding MU without a hit until the fifth inning, Kyle Kinman (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up three runs on four hits in six innings of work and tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts. Kinman was plagued by three walks and hit five batters.

Kiefer Musiel earned the win for the Warriors and improved to 1-0 on the season. Musiel gave up two runs over five innings with four strikeouts. Cody Pollack fanned four batters to pick up his second save of the year.

The BU baseball team will travel to Sterling, Kan. on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 21-22, to face seventh-ranked Sterling College (8-2) in a three-game series at Warrior Field.
