MADISON, S.D. -- The Bellevue University women's and men's golf teams were each chosen to repeat as conference champions in the annual North Star Athletic Association Preseason Coaches' Poll, released on Thursday by the league office.
The BU women cruised past Dickinson State (688-733) in last year's NSAA Championship to claim the title and were chosen as unanimous favorites to repeat for the 2020 title. Bellevue took all six first place votes and totaled 36 points while second place Viterbo earned 29 points in the poll. Waldorf (22 points) was chosen third ahead of Dickinson State (18) while Valley City State (15) and Dakota State (6) completed the field.
Additionally, Bellevue received votes in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 Coaches' Poll, which came out Friday afternoon.
Their season begins Monday, Sept. 9 with the first round of the BU Fall Invitational at the Platteview Country Club.
The Bruin men claimed at comfortable 22-stroke victory over second place Valley City State to win the 2019 NSAA Championship. BU picked up five of six first place votes for 35 points in the preseason poll to place first ahead of VCSU (26 points). Waldorf collected the other first place vote and totaled 21 points. Viterbo (17), Dickinson State (15), and Dakota State (10) rounded out the poll.
After making the cut at last year's National Tournament, Bellevue begins the 2019-20 season ranked No. 21 in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 Coaches' Poll, which was released on Friday afternoon.
They kick off their season at the U.C. Ferguson Classic, hosted by Oklahoma City University at the Lincoln Park Golf Course on Tuesday, Sept. 3 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
The 2020 NSAA Men's and Women's Golf Championships are slated for Monday-Tuesday, Apr. 27-28 and will be hosted by Viterbo University. A venue will be announced in the near future.
The winner of the 2020 NSAA Team Championship will advance to the NAIA Women's Golf National Tournament at the Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City, Okla. from May 12-15.
