Baltimore, Md. -- At last month's National Athletic Trainers' Association convention Bellevue University athletic trainer Mike Livergood earned distinction as the NATA College/University Committee NAIA's Athletic Trainer of the Year.

Livergood is the Bruins' head athletic trainer – a title he has held since 1992 – and oversees the four-person department and supervises a student work force of about five student-workers.

This honor is given annually to an individual that is a member in good standing with the NATA, NAIA as a certified athletic trainer. The recipient must also be employed by an NAIA institution and distinguish themselves as a model of the profession of athletic training in personal conduct and professional allied health service to athletes.

The 2015/16 season marks the first time that Livergood has earned NATA's NAIA Athletic Trainer of the Year recognition. He was previously honored in 2008 as the NAIA's Athletic Trainer of the Year.

Earlier this year, Livergood was presented with the University's Ethical Leadership Award at the annual athletic awards banquet.

Livergood earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Fort Hays State University in 1988 and 1990, respectively. He's set to begin his 25th season at Bellevue when the 2016/17 academic year kicks off next month.

Livergood is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, Mid-American Athletic Trainers' Association, and the Nebraska State Athletic Trainers' Association.
