MADISON, S.D. -- The injury-depleted Bellevue University women's cross country team competed in Saturday's Herb Blakely Invite hosted by Dakota State. Freshman Taylor Caba, running in just her second cross country race, was the Bruins' only finisher.

Caba was 15th of 29 entrants, finishing in 22:15, just off her season-best run at Dordt last weekend. Dayana and Diana Montano-Salama started and were both running well but were unfortunately disqualified when they missed a turn on the course.

Head Coach Craig Christians was pleased with the efforts of Caba. "Taylor is doing a fantastic job when you consider that this was just the second cross country race of her life. She is figuring out how fast she needs to start and when to start her kick and that just comes with racing experience." Regarding the rest of the Bruins, Christians said, "We are really being very cautious with a few of the women. We are going to get them healed up now by skipping some early season meets because we would rather have them running strong in November."

The Bruins will travel to North Sioux City, S.D. next Saturday, Sept. 19 to compete in the Morningside Invitational beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Maude Adams Nature Preserve.
