Ramirez medals to lead Women's XC at WSC Classic

WAYNE, Neb. -- Lorena Ramirez ran a season-best time to medal for the Bellevue University women's cross country team as the Bruins placed fifth on Friday evening at the Wayne State Wildcat Classic.

Recap:

Lorena Ramirez was an individual medalist, finishing in sixth place with a season-best time of 20:25.87, 25 seconds ahead of her previous mark and the first NAIA runner to cross the finish line.

Bellevue was the second of three NAIA teams in the event, which also featured three NCAA Division II teams.

Maiwut Dar (18th place) also claimed a top-20 finish for the Bruins with a time of 21:31.43.

Alisiara Hobbs (21:36.72) and Isabelle Gonzalez (22:12.55) also ran competitive races for the Bruins, scoring 21st and 26th place finishes, respectively.

Dayana Montano-Salama (34th) was the Bruins fifth scoring runner with a time of 24:18.29 and Diana Montano-Salama (26:11.53) finished in 39th place.

Minnesota State-Moorhead took home the team title, edging out second place Wayne State by a margin of 32-44. Kathryn Sistrunk (MSU-Moorhead) took home the individual title, defeating second place Kayla Jansky (Southwest Minnesota) by over 20 seconds, in a time of 19:42.10.

"We did a nice job competing with a mostly Division II field and had an individual medalist in each race which is a testament to our improvement. For the second week in a row we ran solid races with both teams and I am very pleased with the consistency that we are starting to show."
