Women's Volleyball

Steve Field is in his 14th season on the Bruin volleyball coaching staff in 2022 after serving as a student and volunteer assistant coach at the University of Nebraska at Omaha under head coach Rose Shires for 19 years.

Field also has experience coaching at the junior club and high school levels and has been a summer camp clinician at UNO, Bellevue, and numerous satellite camps throughout the region.

During his time at BU, Field has been instrumental in developing All-American setters Olivia Galas, Maddie Squiers, Beth Walker, and Jordan Broady.

Galas was a first-team All-American in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 and was named the 2020 NAIA National Setter of the Year as well as the NSAA Player and Setter of the Year and Region Player of the Year. Squiers earned second-team All-American honors in 2016 and 2017 and was also named the 2016 NAIA National Freshman of the Year. Broady was a four-time all-MCAC selection and the 2012 MCAC Player of the Year, as well as a second-team All-American. Walker was a two-time All-American setter and was named the MCAC Player of the Year in 2014 and the NSAA Setter of the Year in 2015.

Field trains the team's setters, middles, and opposites, while also assisting in all facets of practice planning and implementation, scouting, video breakdown, and recruiting.

Field, who helped guide the Bruins to their 15th appearance in the NAIA National Tournament in 2022, was named the 2016 AVCA NAIA National Assistant Coach of the Year as well as the North Central Region and NSAA Assistant Coach of the Year. He also earned North Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors in 2017. 

While at UNO, Field was also the school’s associate sports information director for 12 years. Prior to that, he was an assistant SID and a student assistant. He handled media relations for the school’s 16 intercollegiate sports, led a complete overhaul of the UNO athletic website, served as the department’s publication coordinator, and updated and archived the department’s statistical records.

A native of Gretna, Neb., Field was a volunteer for the UNO Maverick volleyball team that captured the 1996 NCAA Division II national championship and advanced to 10 NCAA Tournaments.

He also served as team captain, setter, and head coach of the UNO men's club team for five seasons, guiding the squad to three regional championships, two Zonal titles, while advancing to USA Adult Nationals on two occasions.

Field is an active member of the NAIA-SIDA - the NAIA's Sports Information Directors Association, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). For three years, he served on the CoSIDA Publications Contest Committee. He is currently a member of the AVCA's Assistant Coaches Committee. 

Field has earned 24 “Best in the Nation” awards from CoSida, recognizing excellence in producing, designing, and editing collegiate athletic publications.

He was recognized as the North Star Athletic Association's Sports Information Director of the Year in 2021-22 and 2022-23.  

A graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Field earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from UNO and completed his master's degree at Bellevue in 2011.

Field, who also serves as Bellevue’s sports information director, has six children: Kaitlin, Olivia, Kaleb, Jonny, Zach, and Deirdre.
