Athen guides BU to sweep over Saints

ABERDEEN, S.D. -- Senior outside hitter Sierra Athen pounded 13 kills to lead the 16th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-18) sweep over Presentation College Friday night in North Star Athletic Association action.

The victory also marked head coach Trish Siedlik's 600th career victory. Siedlik is now 600-204 in her 21st collegiate season as a head coach. She is in her 17th season at BU after serving four seasons at her alma mater College of St. Mary (Neb.). Her record at BU is 476-183.

With the win, the Bruins won their seventh-straight match, improving to 22-6 on the season and 10-1 in the NSAA. PC fell to 8-19 overall and 5-6 in league play. 

Athen hit .278 in the win while adding three digs and a service ace. 

Nicole Meyer collected eight kills on .438 hitting while adding three blocks. 

Sidney Sledge registered nine kills, seven digs, and a block. 

Senior Olivia Galas recorded a double-double with 38 assists and 14 digs to go along with a pair of blocks while directing the BU offense to a .239 attacking efficiency. 

Defensively, Raeanne Kimoto tallied 17 digs, while Jacki Apel finished with a match-high five blocks, as BU held the Saints to a .083 hitting percentage. 

The Saints' Grace Tobin led all players with 16 kills on .270 hitting. Laura Babcock finished with 17 digs for the PC defense.  

The Bruins will travel to Mayville, N.D. tomorrow (Oct. 29) for a 1 p.m. NSAA matchup at Mayville State University.
