BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Sophomore Jacki Apel fired 13 kills on 19 errorless swings to lead the 15th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team to a convincing 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-19) victory over Valley City State University Friday night in North Star Athletic Association action at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

With the win, the Bruins improved to 20-6 on the season and 8-1 in the NSAA. VCSU dropped to 8-14 overall and 3-6 in league play. 

Apel, who hit .684 in the match, also added five blocks in the win. 

Sidney Sledge pounded 10 kills along with four digs and four blocks. Nicole Meyer hit .417 with six kills and a match-high six blocks. 

Outsides Sierra Athen and Allie Kerns both produced eight kills. 

Sophomore Raeanne Kimoto continued her strong play, finishing with a match-high 26 digs along with four assists. Defensively, the Bruins held a 66-45 advantage in digs and an 11-6 edge in total blocks, as BU held the Vikings to a .026 attacking efficiency. 

Olivia Galas directed the BU offense to a .275 hitting percentage, collecting 40 assists, eight digs, five kills, and three blocks in the win. 

Bailey Nelson paced VCSU with 10 kills and four digs. JayCee Richter led the Viking defense with 12 digs.  

The Bruins will host Dickinson State University at noon on Saturday (Oct. 22) in the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. The match has been designated as BU's Dig Pink Day, supporting breast cancer research and awareness.
