BU suffers first conference loss at No. 8 Viterbo

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The 14th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team lost its first conference match of the season after being swept 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-23) at eighth-ranked Viterbo University in North Star Athletic Association action Friday night at the Viterbo Athletic Center. 

Viterbo moved atop the conference standings, improving to 17-6 on the season and 7-0 in the NSAA. The Bruins fell to 15-6 overall and 5-1 in league play. 

Sierra Athen led the Bruins with 11 kills and seven digs, along with three blocks and a service ace. 

Jacki Apel hit .438 with nine kills, along with three blocks. 

Olivia Galas produced a double-double with 30 assists and 12 digs while adding three kills and a pair of blocks. 

Taylan Keefer led all players with 20 digs. 

BU was plagued by 10 service errors and 23 attacking errors, hitting just .116 in the loss. 

The V-Hawks were led by Jada Mitchell, who collected 14 kills on .500 hitting while adding a match-high eight blocks. 

Kenzie Winker added 13 kills, seven digs, and three blocks. 

The Bruins will travel to Forest City, Iowa, on Saturday (Oct. 8) for a 1 p.m. NSAA matchup at Waldorf University.
