Fleischman guides BU to sweep over Saints

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Sophomore Haley Fleischman recorded 10 kills on .600 hitting to lead the 15th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-23) sweep over visiting Presentation College Saturday afternoon in North Star Athletic Association play at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

The win marked the Bruins' fourth-straight sweep as BU improved to 12-5 on the season and 3-0 in the NSAA. Presentation fell to 3-15 overall and 0-3 in league play. 

Allie Kerns added nine kills, five digs, and a pair of blocks in the win. Sidney Sledge hit .308, finishing with seven kills, three digs, and two blocks. 

Olivia Galas directed the BU offense to a .291 attacking efficiency, dishing out 31 assists, along with seven digs and two kills. Freshman setter Jada Nunn saw extensive action in the third set, finishing with five assists and five digs. 

Sierra Athen and Taylan Keefer led the BU defense with eight digs apiece. 

The Saints were led by Grace Tobin's nine kills, eight digs, and three blocks. 

The Bruins hit a blistering .516 in the opening set and used an 8-2 and a 6-1 run to cruise to the 25-16 opening-set victory. Fleischman and Sledge combined for eight kills in the first frame on 10 attempts. 

BU cooled off slightly in the second frame, hitting at a .367 attacking clip. The Bruins closed the set on an 8-3 run. Fleischman paced BU in the second with four kills on five swings. 

Bellevue hit just .071 in the third set, but closed out the match on a kill by Fleischman to keep BU perfect in NSAA play.  

The Bruins will head to Dickinson, N.D., next Friday, Sept. 30, for a 7 p.m. (central time) match at Dickinson State University.
