BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday in the final day of action of the GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic, defeating (RV) Columbia International 3-1 (25-23, 25-27, 25-23, 25-22) in the opener before dropping the final match to (RV) Westmont College 3-0 (27-25, 25-20, 25-17). 

With the split, the Bruins moved to 5-4 on the season.  

Bellevue will head to Grand Rapids, Mich. on Sept. 9-10 for four matches at Aquinas and Cornerstone. 

Bellevue 3, CIU 1

Sierra Athen and Sidney Sledge each recorded 14 kills and the Bruins registered a season-high 22 blocks en route to the 3-1 (25-23, 25-27, 25-23, 25-22) victory over Columbia International in the opener. 

Athen added 13 digs and eight blocks while Sledge chipped in a season-high nine digs and five blocks. 

Olivia Galas directed the BU offense to a .266 hitting percentage while recording a double-double with 47 assists, a match-high 14 digs, and seven kills on .353 hitting. 

Haley Fleischman finished with a career-high 12 blocks while adding six kills on 22 errorless swings. 

Jacki Apel tallied eight kills and nine blocks in the victory. 

The Rams were paced by Jadaeya Morrell's 18 kills on .517 hitting. Kelsey Mangum led all players with 24 digs while adding seven assists. 

Westmont 3, Bellevue 0

The Bruins squandered a 21-16 lead in the opening set and had two set points before falling 27-25. Westmont cruised in the final two sets 25-20, 25-17. 

Bellevue was led by Rosa Reed-Bouley's eight kills and six digs. Apel added seven kills and three blocks. 

Athen finished with 13 digs and six kills. 

Playing in a 6-2 offense for the majority of the contest, Galas registered 23 assists, four kills, and a pair of service aces. 

Freshman Jada Nunn collected a career-high 10 assists and two digs in the loss. 

Jessie Terlizzi hit .321 with 10 kills to pace the Warriors. Lexi Malone added eight kills on .368 hitting. 

Kaili Hashimoto notched a match-high 14 digs along with four assists and two service aces.
