BU outlasts No. 17 DWU in five-set thriller

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Led by seniors Olivia Galas and Sierra Athen, the 12th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team pulled out a dramatic 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 28-30, 25-16, 15-10) victory over No. 17-ranked Dakota Wesleyan University Thursday night at the GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic.

The Bruins improved to 4-2 with the win. The Tigers fell to 5-1 overall. 

Galas nearly recorded a triple-double with 65 assists, 10 kills, and nine digs while directing the BU offense to an efficient .339 hitting percentage. 

Athen finished with 20 kills on .487 hitting while adding 17 digs and three blocks. 

Sophomore Haley Fleischman registered a career-high 17 kills and hit .419 while adding three blocks. 

Jacki Apel hit a sizzling .579 with 14 kills and only one error in 19 attempts. She also finished with a match-high six blocks. 

Rosa Reed-Bouley came off the bench in the final two sets and finished with eight kills and two blocks and hit .357.

Taylan Keefer anchored the BU defense with a match-high 23 digs. 

Ady Dwight paced the Tigers with 14 kills and seven blocks. Taylee indahl finished with 13 kills and four blocks.  

The Bruins will take on 15th-ranked Central Methodist at 7 p.m. on Friday night at the Lied Activity Center.
