CALDWELL, Idaho -- The Bellevue University volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday at the College of Idaho Tournament, dropping a three-set (25-23, 25-21, 28-26) contest to No. 7-ranked Corban University before rebounding with a 3-1 (20-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-17) victory over the host school, College of Idaho. 

The third-ranked Bruins moved to 2-1 on the 2022 season with the split. 

Bellevue will travel to Columbia, Mo. next Friday, Aug. 26 to compete in the Columbia College Hampton Inn Classic.  

Match 1: Corban 3, Bellevue 0

In a matchup of last year's NAIA Nationals match to advance to the NAIA quarterfinals, Corban road the hot hitting of outside Avari Ridgway to record the 3-0 sweep over the Bruins, avenging their loss in Sioux City. 

Ridgway finished with 18 kills on .353 hitting while adding 13 digs. Makayla Roginski added 10 kills and hit .333. 

The Bruins were led by senior Sierra Athen, who recorded 11 kills, seven digs, two blocks, and a service ace. Senior Rosa Reed-Bouley came off the bench to register seven kills on .278 hitting while adding three digs. 

Olivia Galas directed the BU offense to a .178 hitting efficiency, dishing out 30 assists and adding three kills, five digs, and a pair of blocks. Jacki Apel finished with a match-high five blocks and added four kills on 18 errorless swings. 

Makayla Roginski chipped in with 10 kills on .333 to help the Warriors to the sweep. 

The first set featured four ties and five lead changes. Tied at 23-all, CU closed the opening frame with a kill by Ridgway and a block by Ally Schmidt on Allie Kerns.  

Corban hit .484 with no hitting errors to cruise to the 25-21 victory in the second set. 

The Bruins battled back from a four-point deficit in the third frame and had a set point at 25-24. A kill by Allyson Reid tied the contest. The Warriors ended the match with two-straight kills by Roginski.  

Match 2: Bellevue 3, College of Idaho 1

After dropping the opening frame 25-20, the Bruins responded in resounding fashion, cruising in the next three sets, 25-15, 25-20, 25-17). Reed-Bouley led the Bruins with 13 kills on .400 hitting. Apel added 11 kills while hitting a blistering .625 and adding five blocks. Kerns was the third Bruin in double figures, finishing with 10 kills while hitting .348. 

Galas recorded her second double-double of the weekend, finishing with 40 assists and 10 digs. She also added three kills, a pair of service aces, and a block, while guiding the Bruins to a .305 attacking efficiency. 

Defensively, BU was paced by Taylan Keefer's 12 digs as the Bruins held a 48-43 advantage in total digs. 

The Coyotes were led by Chayla Slavin's 12 kills and two blocks. Gabriella Rios added10 kills and nine digs while Clair Hodge produced a match-high 14 digs. 

The match was highlighted by BU's season-high .519 hitting in the third frame, which saw the Bruins nail 18 kills with four errors in 27 swings.
