Bruins end regular season with sweep over Waldorf

FOREST CITY, Iowa -- The 11th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team ended the 2021 regular season with a convincing 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-14) sweep at Waldorf University in North Star Athletic Association action Saturday afternoon at the Hanson Fieldhouse. 

The Bruins, who finished second in the NSAA regular-season standings, improved to 22-6 overall and 11-3 in the NSAA. Waldorf ended its season at 11-16 and 2-14 in league play. 

Junior setter Olivia Galas led the Bruins, nearly recording a triple-double. She finished the contest with nine kills on 11 errorless swings, to go along with 26 assists and a match-high 11 digs. 

Freshman middle Haley Fleischman added seven kills on .538 hitting while adding a match-high four blocks. Junior outside hitter Sierra Athen produced eight kills and eight digs in the victory. 

BU hit .337 in the match while limited the Warriors to a .108 attacking clip.  

Alisha Schaefer paced the Warriors with nine kills and four digs. Zoee Pond added seven kills and a block. 

The Bruins trailed by more than one point just twice in the match including a 12-10 deficit in the third set. BU scored six-straight and ended the match on two separate four-point scoring runs to secure the sweep with the 25-14 victory in the third. 

It marked BU's 18th sweep of the season.  

Times and pairings for the NSAA Tournament will be announced on Sunday. The tournament will be held at the Watertown Civic Arena in Watertown, S.D. on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 12-13.
