Bruins rebound with sweep over Waldorf

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- After seeing their eight-match winning streak snapped last night against No. 2 Viterbo, the eighth-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team rebounded with a convincing 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-16) sweep over visiting Waldorf University Saturday afternoon in the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

With the sweep, the Bruins improved to 16-3 on the season and 7-1 in the NSAA. Waldorf fell to 7-10 overall and 0-7 in league play. 

Eve Fountain (13) and Sierra Athen (13) combined for 26 kills to lead the BU offense. Fountain hit .478 in the match and added 14 digs for her team-leading 11th double-double of the season. Athen attacked at a .444 hitting clip while adding seven digs, three blocks, and a service ace. 

Sienna Black came off the bench to register five kills on seven errorless swings. Taylan Keefer matched Fountain with a team-high 14 digs. 

Olivia Galas directed the BU offense to an efficient .348 hitting efficiency while dishing out 44 assists and adding five digs, four blocks, two service aces, and a block. 

Bellevue out dug the Warriors, 57-42, and held a 6-3 edge in total blocks. 

Kenzie Kidd led WU with five kills, 11 digs, and four service aces. Kaylee Kidd registered a match-high 16 digs. 

Seniors Payton Fehringer and Jorie Lincoln were honored following the match. 

The Bruins will travel to Madison, S.D. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, for a key NSAA matchup at Dakota State University. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
