BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The eighth-ranked Bellevue University volleyball squad recorded a pair of sweeps over visiting Dickinson State University on Friday in North Star Athletic Association action at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. BU won the opener 25-25-20, 25-13, 25-19 before dominating the nightcap, 25-13, 25-15, 25-15.

With the two wins, the Bruins improved to 14-2 on the season and 5-0 in the NSAA. DSU dropped to 1-17 overall and 1-4 in league play. 

The two sweeps extended BU's streak of sweeps to seven matches.  

The Bruins will host Valley City State University on Saturday (Oct. 2) at 2 p.m. in the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. Chick-Fil-A will sponsor tomorrow afternoon's match when fans will have a chance to win free dessert from Chick-Fil-A. 

Match 1: Bellevue 3, Dickinson State 0

Eve Fountain (10) and Sierra Athen (9) combined for 19 kills to lead BU to the sweep in the opener. Fountain hit .450 in the match while adding nine digs and three service aces. Athen collected six digs, a pair of service aces, and one block. Jacki Apel came off the bench and hit .385 with six kills. 

Olivia Galas directed the BU offense to a .263 hitting efficiency, dishing out 31 assists while adding six digs and three kills. 

Taylan Keefer anchored the Bruin defense with a match-high 12 digs while adding four assists. 

Mackenna Johnson led all players with 11 kills. She also added five digs, two blocks, and a service ace. 

Bellevue, who trailed just once in the match, out-dug the Blue Hawks, 41-35, and held a 42-22 advance in total kills.  

Match 2: Bellevue 3, Dickinson State 0

Fountain (12) and Apel (11) combined for 23 kills to pace the Bruins in the nightcap. Fountain hit a sizzling .688 in the victory while adding 10 digs for her team-leading 10th double-double of the season. Apel hit at a .562 attacking clip with just two errors in 16 swings. 

Athen produced a team season-high five service aces in the match.

Haley Fleischman registered a match-high five blocks while hitting .500 with three kills on three errorless attacks. 

Galas dished out 32 assists while directing BU to a .373 hitting percentage. She added six digs, five kills, and two blocks in the win. 

Keefer finished with a match-high 13 digs. 

Johnson once again led DSU with seven kills, three service aces, and five digs.
