Athen leads BU to fifth-straight sweep

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Junior outside hitter Sierra Athen pounded 13 kills on .455 hitting as the 11th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team recorded its fifth-straight sweep with a 25-16, 25-10, 25-22 victory over Peru State College in non-conference action Tuesday night in the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

With the victory, Bellevue improved to 12-2 on the season as all 18 Bruins saw action. Peru State dropped to 3-16 overall. 

Athen added five digs, two service aces, and two blocks in the victory. 

Eve Fountain added nine kills with just one error on 12 swings while providing four digs, two service aces, two blocks, and a pair of assists. 

Olivia Galas dished out 33 assists and added six kills on .500 hitting with eight digs and two blocks. 

The Bruins hit .362 in the match while out-blocking the Bobcats, 14-7. BU recorded seven aces compared to just one for PSC. 

Alexandra Chavarria led the Bobcats with seven kills and two blocks. Cassie Davis finished with 14 assists, eight digs, and two kills for PSC. 

Bellevue returns to conference action on Friday, Oct. 1 when they host Dickinson State University in a pair of NSAA matches beginning at 1 p.m. in the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
