Bruins stay hot in sweep over Comets

MAYVILLE, N.D. -- The 11th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team recorded its fourth-straight sweep with a convincing 3-0 (25-20, 27-25, 25-11) victory at Mayville State University Friday night in North Star Athletic Association action Friday night at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse. 

With the win, the Bruins improved to 11-2 on the season and 3-0 in the NSAA. Mayville fell to 11-5 overall and 1-1 in league play. 

Three Bruins recorded double-doubles in the victory. 

Junior setter Olivia Galas set a school record for the most sets in a three-set match in the rally-scoring era. She finished with 55 assists and 11 digs. Eve Fountain recorded her team-leading ninth double-double of the season with 16 kills and a match-high 26 digs. Sierra Athen was the third Bruin with a double-double, finishing with 13 kills and 12 digs. 

Both BU middles hit .500 or better in the victory. Sienna Black pounded 11 kills on .556 hitting. Haley Fleischman registered six kills on 12 errorless swings. 

Peyton Schendt notched nine kills on .350 hitting.  

The Bruins out dug MSU by 17 digs and held a commanding 60-29 advantage in total kills. 

Elora Passa (8) and Lily Pyle (7) combined for 15 kills to pace the Comet offense.  

The Bruins return home on Tuesday, Sept. 28 for a 7 p.m. non-conference match against Peru State College at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
