Galas, Keefer earn weekly conference honors

MADISON, S.D. -- Junior setter Olivia Galas and freshman libero Taylan Keefer were both honored by the North Star Athletic Association for their performances in the Bruins' season-opening weekend at the Big Sky Tournament in Butte, Mont. Galas was named the NSAA Setter of the Week while Keefer garnered NSAA Defender of the Week accolades. 

The Bruins went 3-0 on the week, including a decisive 3-0 victory over No. 6-ranked Eastern Oregon University. BU dropped just one set on the week. 

Galas earned her 20th weekly conference honor and also surpassed the 4000-assist plateau. She led BU with 11.90 assists per set in the three victories. She also added 1.60 kills, 1.40 digs, and 0.70 blocks per set while hitting .371. 

In the sweep over EOU, Galas dished out 35 assists while adding six kills, four digs, and three blocks. She produced a season-high 47 assists in the four-set victory over Carroll. In the season-opener at Montana Tech, Galas collected 37 assists, three digs, four kills, and a pair of blocks in a three-game sweep.  

Keefer averaged 4.50 digs per set while also adding two assists an a pair of service aces. 

In the victory over Montana Tech, Keefer produced 20 digs, an assist, and one kill. She collected 18 digs, an assist and a service ace in the sweep over No. 6 EOU. 

The Bruins will return to action this Saturday, Aug. 28, when they travel to Seward, Neb. for a pair of matches against Baker University and No. 7 Concordia (Neb.).
