BU signs Platteview standout, Anna Koehler

Bellevue University head volleyball coach Trish Siedlik announced today the signing of 5-7 outside hitter/defensive specialist Anna Koehler (Springfield, Neb./Platteview HS) to a letter of intent to continue her athletic and academic careers at Bellevue University beginning in the fall of 2020.

Koehler, the daughter of Kendra and Chad Koehler, was a four-year letterwinner at Platteview High School in volleyball under head coach Shae Speth. She was a three-time all-conference selection and a first-team Class B all-state honoree while helping PHS to an appearance in the Nebraska State Tournament in 2016.

During her junior season, Koehler set Platteview's career dig record, finishing her career with 1,466 digs.

She was twice named the "In the Game" (ITG) Class B Player of the Year while also earning first-team Omaha World-Herald all-area accolades.

A versatile athlete, Koehler was also a standout in basketball and track.

She helped the Trojans to two appearances in the Nebraska State Basketball Tournament (2018, 2020), twice earning all-conference honors. Kohler set PHS's school record for steals in a game (11) and single-season steals.

A championship track athlete, Koehler has been a state qualifier in track every year of her high school career. She was the 2018 state champion in the high jump and the runner-up in the high jump in 2019. Koehler was a member of the state championship 4x100 relay team in 2019 and the third-place 4-x400 team. She finished in eighth place in the 200 at the 2019 State Meet, helping her team to a second-place finish in the team race in Class B.

An excellent student, Koehler was named to the academic all-state team multiple times and was named the Platteview High School Woman of the Year.

"Anna is an all-around athlete and fits in well with our athletic group," said Siedlik. "What I appreciated the most about Anna is that she took her time in making her college decision to make sure that she was getting what was best for both her athletic career and education. We are fortunate to be that choice, and we are looking forward to seeing what she has already established at a higher level."

Koehler joins earlier signees 5-11 middle blocker/rightside hitter Jacki Apel (Bellevue, Neb./Bellevue West HS) and 5-5 libero/defensive specialist Taylan Keefer (Council Bluffs, Iowa/Abraham Lincoln HS) in the 2020 recruiting class.

The Bruins finished the 2019 season with a 28-10 overall record, making their 12th appearance in the NAIA National Tournament after finishing second in the NSAA regular-season standings. BU advanced to the NAIA National Championship final site for the ninth time in school history and finished with a No. 19 final national ranking.
