Bruins avenge loss to MSU in sweep over Comets

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The 13th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team avenged their conference-opening loss to Mayville State University, downing the Comets 3-0 (25-8, 25-23, 25-17) Friday night in North Star Athletic Association action at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.  

With the win, the Bruins improved to 22-5 on the season and 8-2 in the NSAA. MSU dropped to 16-11 overall and 5-5 in league play. The first set was BU's most-lopsided set victory of the conference season. 

Rosa Reed-Bouley led the Bruins offensively, pounding 13 kills on .476 hitting. Paige Holdsworth recorded a double-double, finishing with 10 kills and 12 digs. Sierra Athen posted a team-high 13 digs to go along with nine kills and a pair of assists. 

Olivia Galas directed the BU attack to a .279 hitting percentage, dishing out 45 assists while chipping in with six digs, four kills, and a block. 

Bellevue out-dug the Comets, 50-38, holding MSU to a .061 hitting clip. The Comets came into the contest leading the league in digs per set at 19.4

Kiana Johnson led the MSU offense with eight digs while adding a pair of blocks.  

Bellevue will host Presentation College tomorrow (Oct. 26) at 1 p.m. in the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. It will mark the final regular-season home match for the Bruins.
