Athen keys BU sweep over Saints

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Freshman Sierra Athen drilled a match-high 12 kills to lead the 22nd-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-18) sweep over Presentation College in North Star Athletic Association action Saturday afternoon at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

With the victory, the Bruins improved to 14-4 on the season and 5-0 in the NSAA. Presentation fell to 9-8 overall and 2-3 in league play. BU has now won five-straight matches. 

Athen, who hit .308 in the match, added eight digs and five blocks in the victory. 

Shayla Scanlan hit .400 with eight kills while adding three blocks. Rosa Reed-Bouley finished with seven kills and a match-high six blocks, as the Bruins held a 10-8 advantage in total blocks. 

Olivia Galas directed the BU offense to a .250 hitting percentage, registering 34 assists, five digs, three kills, two blocks, and a service ace.  

Defensively, the Bruins were led by Fabiola Aviles' 11 digs. 

The Saints were paced by eight kills from Haylee Biel and 11 digs from Joely Roe.  

The Bruins will travel to LaCrosse, Wis. next Friday, Oct. 5 for a 7 p.m. matchup at No. 5-ranked Viterbo University. Both squads sit atop the NSAA standings with perfect 5-0 records.
