Bellevue University head volleyball coach Trish Siedlik announced today the signing of 5-10 setter Olivia Galas (Omaha, Neb./Gross Catholic HS) to a letter of intent to continue her athletic and academic careers at BU beginning in the fall of 2018.

Galas earned three varsity letters at Gross Catholic HS under coach Sarah Rangel. She finished the 2017 season with 585 assists, 383 digs, 224 kills and 50 service aces, guiding the Cougars to a 12-17 overall record.

A seven-year member of Nebraska Elite Volleyball Club, Galas was a three-year team captain under coach Andre Wehrli.

"Olivia will be a great addition to our team for many reasons," said Siedlik. "She has played with fellow signee Rosa Reed-Bouley for many years, so having that setter-hitter relationship will be very important. Having spent many years together in high school and club volleyball will only make the transition smoother and more seamless for both of them. Olivia has the talent and desire to advance her setting skills through hard work and extra time in the weight room. We look forward to seeing her develop in her career as a Bruin. Being local and having her family close will be exciting for the Galas family."

Galas joins earlier signees 5-11 outside hitter Sierra Athen (Red Oak, Iowa/Red Oak HS), 6-0 middle blocker Sienna Black (Council Bluffs, Iowa/Treynor HS), 5-5 defensive specialist/libero Sidney Craig (Harlan, Iowa/Harlan HS), 5-4 defensive specialist/libero Madi Evans (Omaha, Neb./Millard North HS), and 6-1 middle blocker Rosa Reed-Bouley (Omaha, Neb./Gross Catholic HS).

The Bruins finished the 2017 season with a 30-13 overall record, advancing to the NAIA National Tournament for the 10th time in school history after finishing second in the NSAA Post-season Tournament. Bellevue was ranked No. 19 in the final NAIA National Top 25 Poll.
