Squiers, Scanlan named NAIA All-Americans

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Sophomore setter Maddie Squiers and junior rightside hitter Shayla Scanlan have both been named NAIA Volleyball All-Americans in an announcement made today by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The All-American teams were selected by the NAIA Volleyball All-America Selection Committee. 

Squiers, who led the nation in assists, earned second-team honors for the second-straight year. Scanlan was a third team selection after earning honorable mention accolades in 2016. 

Squiers led the 2017 Bruins with 1,683 assists, a .291 hitting percentage, 63 service aces, and 21 double-doubles. She was second on the team with 449 digs. She ranks fifth in school history with 3,469 assists. A two-time first team all-NSAA and all-Region selection, Squiers earned NSAA Setter of the Week honors four times this season and was also named an NSAA Scholar-Athlete. 

Scanlan led the 2017 BU squad with 496 kills and was second with a .281 hitting percentage and 107 total blocks. She produced 27 matches with double-figure kill totals this season, earning both all-NSAA and all-Region honors. Earlier this season, Scanlan joined the 1,000-kill club and now has 1,268 career kills, ranking 11th in school history. 

The Bruins finished the 2017 season with a 30-13 overall record, advancing to the NAIA National Tournament for the 10th time in school history after finishing second in the NSAA Post-season Tournament.
