Squiers pulls in fourth-straight NSAA Weekly Award

MADISON, S.D. -- Bellevue University setter Maddie Squiers was once again recognized as she continues her strong sophomore campaign for the Bruins. Squiers was named the North Star Athletic Association's Setter of the Week for the fourth-straight week on Monday afternoon, as announced by the league office.

This past week Squiers averaged 9.7 assists per set as #21 Bellevue opened league play with a pair of home victories. She registered 30 assists, nine digs, seven kills, and a pair of service aces against Waldorf on Wednesday. She followed that performance up with 38 assists, eight kills, seven digs, and two service aces against Dakota State on Thursday. For the week, Squiers accumulated 68 set assists, 16 digs, 15 kills, and four service aces for the Bruins.

Squiers is among the national leaders in three major statistical categories, ranking 11th in both total assists (625) and assists per game (10.78) while checking in at 29th in service aces (24). Her .389 hitting percentage easily leads the team while her 166 digs rank third on the club.

The 21st-ranked BU volleyball team picked up a pair of home conference wins over Waldorf (3-0) and Dakota State (3-1; ) to open the league slate.

Upcoming:

Bellevue (12-3 | 2-0 NSAA) steps out of conference play to host Doane University on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in a battle of Top-25 programs. Later in the week the Bruins host Valley City State University in an NSAA match at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening.

The week wraps up on Saturday as Bellevue hosts a three-team event with the Bruins starting the action with an NSAA match against Mayville State University at noon. Mayville State will then play Grace University at 2 p.m. before BU and Grace wrap up Saturday's action with a 4 p.m. match.
