MADISON, S.D. -- For the eighth time in her young career, sophomore setter Maddie Squiers has been named the North Star Athletic Association Setter of the Week for her performances in the Bruins' opening week of competition last weekend in Butte, Mont.
Squiers collected a total of 140 set assists in 15 sets as the No. 20-ranked Bruins went 2-2 record in the Big Sky Challenge to open the 2017 campaign. She opened up the season with 48 sets and 9 digs in 3-2 victory over Montana State-Northern. Squiers posted a double-double of 40 assists and 15 digs, despite a 3-1 loss to No. 25-ranked College of Idaho. She finished the week with 9.3 assists and 2.3 digs per set. She also recorded 23 kills for the week with a hitting percentage of .463.
The Bruins return to action on Wednesday, Aug. 30, when they travel to Seward, Neb. for a 7 p.m. non-conference contest at Concordia University.
