BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University head volleyball coach Trish Siedlik announced today the signing of 5-10 middle hitter Rachel Barr (Mendota, Ill./Mendota Township HS, Carl Sandburg College) to a letter of intent to continue her athletic and academic careers at BU beginning in the fall of 2015.

Barr, the daughter of Terry and Cheryl, was coached by Todd Winkler at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Ill. where she helped lead the team to the Region IV Tournament. In 69 career matches at Carl Sandburg, Barr totaled 307 kills for an average of 1.24 per set for a .211 kill efficiency. She added 139 digs and 227 blocks in her two seasons at Carl Sandburg. This past season, she averaged 1.53 kills per set, hitting at .184, and 1.29 blocks per set.

Coach Siedlik was happy to announce the signing, saying, "Rachel found us after an unfortunate coaching change at the school she was going to attend after her junior college. She saw our strong accounting program as a place to continue her studies. What we liked about Rachel is her quickness and definitely her work ethic. She wants to play for a team that will continue her love for the game. She visited us and it was a quick decision to call us her new home. We are pretty excited to have her be a Bruin."

Barr intends to major in Accounting at Bellevue. She played high school volleyball for John Holzman at Mendota Township (Ill.) High School.

Barr joins earlier signees Lauren Colpitts (Council Bluffs, Iowa/Abraham Lincoln HS), Erin Warren (Papillion, Neb./Papillion-La Vista South HS), Marylyn Mozena (Weeping Water, Neb./Weeping Water HS) and Shayla Scanlan (Plattsmouth, Neb./Plattsmouth HS) in BU's 2015 recruiting class.

The Bruins finished the 2014 season with a 22-20 record, placing second in the MCAC regular season with a 6-2 league mark.
