Bellevue University head volleyball coach Trish Siedlik announced today the signing of 5-10 outside hitter Lauren Colpitts (Council Bluffs, Iowa/Abraham Lincoln HS) to a letter of intent to continue her athletic and academic careers at BU beginning in the fall of 2015.

Colpitts, the daughter of Chris and Cindy Colpitts, was a first team all-Missouri River Activities Conference selection after leading the Lynx with 3.11 kills per set and finishing with a .245 kill efficiency, while adding 434 total digs.

Colpitts, who was coached by Brittany Ridenour, also had 42 service aces and 33 blocks on the season and helped lead her team to the 2014 Iowa State Tournament, where Abraham Lincoln reached the Class 5A semifinals.

"Lauren not only brings a strong arm to the outside hitter position, but she also brings a winning tradition," said Siedlik. "Lauren comes from a powerhouse high school program in southwest Iowa and our coaching staff feels that if we can bring in more players that have been in those championship situations and mix them in with the talent that we have here, we will be heading back to Sioux City and the National Tournament."

A three-year letterwinner in basketball, Colpitts also excelled in the classroom, earning academic all-conference accolades.

"Lauren is a very good student and that also helps our program achieve our goals of developing strong, independent women who will excel on and off the court," added Siedlik. "What is neat about meeting Lauren is that it came initially from one of our current players. After that, she was referred to us by former standout player in our program. I love to have these kinds of players sought out by players that have been through our program or are currently in our program. We are very lucky to have her!"

She played club volleyball for Southwest Iowa Third Degree VBC under coach Mark Neill.

Colpitts joins earlier signees Erin Warren (Papillion, Neb./Papillion-LaVista South HS), Marylyn Mozena (Weeping Water, Neb./Weeping Water HS) and Shayla Scanlan (Plattsmouth, Neb./Plattsmouth HS) in BU's 2015 recruiting class.

The Bruins finished the 2014 season with a 22-20 record, placing second in the MCAC regular season with a 6-2 league mark.
