BU claims MCAC regular season title with win over Waldorf

BELLEVUE, Neb. --  The Bellevue University volleyball team won the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season title with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-15 win against Waldorf College Saturday afternoon at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

Bellevue, ranked No. 18 in the NAIA, finishes the regular season with a 32-8 overall record and an undefeated 12-0 mark in the MCAC while Waldorf falls to 23-23 and 8-4 in conference play. The Bruins swept all 12 conference foes this season.

The Bruins will host the MCAC Tournament on Nov. 15-16. Match times and pairings will be announced on Monday. The winner of the MCAC Tournament will receive an automatic berth into the NAIA National Tournament.

Symone Faulkner and Caitlyn Rueth both recorded nine kills to lead the BU offense. Rueth finished with a match-high 15 digs while Faulkner added four block assists.

Beth Walker notched 31 assists, five kills, three blocks and two digs.

Libero Meghan Evans chipped in 11 digs, three assists and a service ace.

The Bruins opened the match on a 12-4 run and hit .333 with six blocks as they took the first set, 25-14. The Warriors were plagued by eight hitting errors and finished with a -.069 hitting percentage.

BU scored 11 of the first 13 points as they cruised to the 25-17 win in the second game. Sydney DeBoer (4), Faulkner (3) and Rueth (3) combined for 10 the Bruins' 13 kills in the set.

The Bruins scored the first five points and hit .370 with three service aces and limited WC to -.071 hitting in the third stanza en route to the 25-15 win. Bridgette Baden, Faulkner and Rueth each recorded three kills to pace the offense. 

BU never trailed in the match and improved to 5-0 all-time against the Warriors.

The Bruins finished with a hitting percentage of .333 and held WC to -.011 hitting. BU also notched 11 blocks and seven service aces.

Aby Emiru paced the Warriors with nine kills, four digs and two blocks.

  • The Bruins have gone undefeated in regular season conference play for the second-straight season and fourth time in school history.
  • Trish Siedlik has now won 10 MCAC regular season crowns in her 12 combined seasons as the head coach at College of St. Mary and Bellevue.
  • The Bruins are 91-3 (.968) since 2007 in conference regular season matches.
  • Bellevue has won six MCAC regular season titles in program history.
  • The Bruins have advanced to the NAIA National Tournament six-straight years.
