No. 15 Columbia posts 3-1 win over Bruins

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Columbia (Mo.) College posted a 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 25-16) nonconference win over the 16th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team Saturday in nonconference action at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

With the win, 15th-ranked Columbia improved to 23-9 while Bellevue fell to 30-8 overall.

Annie Benson notched her 15th double-double of the season with 15 kills and 16 digs and Caitlyn Rueth finished with 13 kills and eight digs.

Beth Walker recorded 37 assists, seven digs and five kills while libero Meghan Evans tallied 11 digs.

Trailing 18-11 in the first set, the Bruins went on a 12-5 run to tie the game at 23-23. The Cougars, who led by as many as nine in the set, answered back and scored the final two points to win, 25-23.

BU scored six of the first nine points to begin the second game before CC went on a 7-1 run to take a 10-7 advantage. The Bruins responded and ended the set on an 18-10 spurt as they took the game, 25-20. BU outhit the Cougars .273 to .167 with three total blocks.

Facing an early two-point deficit, 9-7, the Cougars outscored BU 18-11 the remaining of the third set to win, 25-20. CC registered four service aces and hit .205 in the stanza.

The Bruins used an 8-1 run to erase a 12-6 deficit in the fourth set, but CC finished on a 12-2 run to post the victory. The Cougars hit .375 with three aces.

The Cougars were led by Paula Rosa's match-high 17 kills and eight digs.

CC improved to 10-0 all-time against BU.

The Bruins will return to conference action on Friday, Nov. 8 when they play at College of Saint Mary (17-16, 7-3 MCAC). First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Lied Fitness Center.
