Bruins sweep Johnson & Wales, York in Denver

DENVER, Colo. -- The 15th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team swept a pair of matches Saturday at a triangular at Johnson & Wales University. Bellevue (20-3, 5-0 MCAC) opened with a 25-12, 25-14, 25-16 win against Johnson & Wales before defeating York College, 25-16, 25-10, 25-20, in a conference match in the finale.

Bellevue has now won 13-straight matches.  

The Bruins will host the six-team Bruin/Premier Classic on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 4-5 at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

Bellevue 3, Johnson & Wales 0

The Bruins used a balanced attack to defeat the Wildcats in the opener as nine players registered at least one kill in the match.

Symone Faulkner, a Denver native, paced the team with eight kills and two blocks and Caitlyn Rueth added seven kills and nine digs.

Beth Walker dished out 27 assists, five digs and three kills while Annie Benson led the defense with 10 digs and five kills.

BU hit .320 and held the JWU to -.079 hitting.

The Wildcats fell to 8-13 with the loss.

Rueth led the Bruin offense with 10 kills on .308 hitting as BU cruised to the 3-0 MCAC sweep over York in the nightcap. 

Bellevue hit .293 in the match, while limiting the Panthers to .010 hitting as York committed 22 hitting errors. 

Faulkner added eight kills and a match-high five blocks in the win. Benson totalled eight kills on .438 hitting while playing in just two sets. 

York was led by Nicole Gates' seven kills. The Panthers fell to 2-13 on the season and 1-2 in the MCAC.
