No. 12 Bellevue sweeps Doane

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University volleyball team posted a 25-22, 25-18, 25-20 sweep over Doane College in the final day of the Bruin Labor Classic at the Lied Activity Center on Saturday.

With the win, Bellevue improved to 6-1 while Doane fell to 3-5.

The Bruins were led offensively by Sunny Bell and Sydney DeBoer who combined for 22 kills. Bell recorded 12 while DeBoer added 10 kills.

Beth Walker recorded her second-straight double-double recording 32 assists and 13 digs.

Four different Bruins notched double-digit dig totals led by Kirstine Linebaugh's career-high 15. Annie Benson also registered 15 digs while Walker (13) and Meghan Evans (11) were the other players in double figures.

The Bruins scored the first five points in the opening set and forced DC into 11 hitting errors as they took the first game, 25-22. BU was led by Bell's five kills while Symone Faulkner, DeBoer and Walker tallied two blocks apiece.

BU raced out to quick 9-3 advantage and never trailed in the second set en route to the 25-18 win.

Trailing 16-11, the Bruins ended the third set on a 14-4 run to complete the sweep. The Tigers were plagued by four hitting errors and five service errors.

BU hit .164 for the match with eight blocks and three service aces.

DC was paced by Ashley Axmann's team-high nine kills.

Bellevue will return to action next Friday-Saturday, Sept. 6-7 when they participate in the Hastings College Classic. The Bruins will play Montana Western, Hastings, No. 23 Northwestern (Iowa) and Dakota State in the two-day tournament.
