Bruins pull out sweep at Briar Cliff

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- The Bellevue University volleyball team pulled out a three-set sweep at Briar Cliff University, 25-15, 25-21, 28-26, Thursday night at the Newman Flanagan Center in non-conference action.

The Bruins, ranked No. 22 nationally, improved to 25-6 on the season with the win. Briar Cliff fell to 11-17 overall.

Seniors Maureen Wardian and Kali Schnacker led the Bruins with 12 kills apiece as the Bruins hit .262 on the night. Meghan Evans paced the BU defense with 12 digs. Jordan Broady dished out 35 assists, while adding six digs.

Wardian hit .611 on the night with just one error on 18 swings. 

The Bruins used three service aces and a .258 hitting percentage to breeze to the 25-15 opening set victory. Schnacker, Wardian, Caitlyn Rueth, and Sydney DeBoer all collected three kills.

Schnacker and Wardian pounded four kills apiece in the second set which saw 14 ties and five lead changes before BU pulled away for the 25-21 win, scoring six of the last eight points. 

The third set featured 12 ties and Bellevue squandered three match points until Schnacker's cross-court kill ended the match at 28-26.

The Bruins will return to conference action next Tuesday, Nov. 1, when they travel across town for a 7 p.m. match at College of St. Mary.
