Bruins sweep York in MCAC action

YORK, Neb. -- Sophomores Caitlyn Rueth and Sydney DeBoer posted career highs in kills and Andrea Johnson had a career night defensively as the 15th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team swept York College 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-23) Tuesday night in MCAC action at the Freeman Center. 

The Bruins improved to 16-4 on the season and 5-0 in the MCAC and have now won 12-straight matches. Bellevue has not dropped a set in conference action. York fell to 11-8 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Rueth led the Bruins with 12 kills and four digs. DeBoer added 10 kills on .444 hitting while adding three blocks.

Johnson paced the BU defense with a career-high 16 digs and a service ace. Kirstine Linebaugh collected a match-high four service aces in the win. 

Jordan Broady dished out 36 assists, while adding nine digs and an ace and directing the BU offense to a .282 attack percentage. The Bruins held York to .121 hitting in the match.

Kali Schnacker, who finished with eight total kills, led the Bruins in the opening set with four kills on seven swings and BU never trailed. DeBoer had five kills on seven swings in the second set as BU hit a blistering .516 to breeze to the 25-13 win. Rueth connected on six kills in the third frame and hit .455 and the Bruins led by as many as seven points before York battled back with a 16-9 run to tie the game at 20 apiece. With the score tied at 23-all, Bellevue ended the match on a kill by Rueth and Linebaugh's fourth service ace.

Bellevue will be idle until next Tuesday, Oct. 4 when they host cross-town rival College of St. Mary at 7:30 p.m. in the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. Prior to the match, alumni teams from the two schools will square off at 6:00 p.m.
