BU wins 10th straight, top Dordt, 3-1

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Kali Schnacker and Annie Benson recorded 14 kills apiece to lead the 15th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-16, 25-16) victory over Dordt College in the 2011 Bruin/Premier Volleyball Classic Friday night at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

Bellevue has now won 10 consecutive matches and is 14-4 overall, while Dordt fell to 7-11 on the season.

Schnacker hit .321 and added four blocks in the win. Maureen Wardian hit .421 with nine kills and three blocks. Jordan Broady collected 44 assists, eight digs, five kills, and two blocks. The BU defense was led by Meghan Evans who had a match-high 21 digs. 

The opening set, which featured 14 ties and three lead changes, was tight throughout as neither team was able to gain more than a three-point advantage. With the score tied at 23-all, BU closed the set on a Dordt attack error and a kill by Wardian. Schnacker led the Bruins with five kills on eight swings.

The Bruins raced out to a 13-8 lead in the second set keyed by two kills each by Benson and Schnacker. The Defenders responded and reeled off six of the next eight points to cut the Bruin lead down to one, 15-14. After a pair of kills by Wardian gave BU a 19-17 edge, Dordt seized control and ended the stanza on an 8-2 run to take the game, 25-21.

Bellevue controlled the third and fourth sets, holding Dordt to .059 and .024 hitting in the two sets as the Bruins cruised to nine-point wins in each game. 

The Bruins will conclude action in the Bruin/Premier Classic with a 10:00 a.m. match on Saturday against the University of Sioux Falls.
