Bellevue sweeps Northwestern, 3-0

ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- Senior Kali Schnacker pounded 12 kills and hit .421 to lead 16th-ranked Bellevue University to a 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-16) victory over Northwestern (Iowa) College Wednesday night in non-conference action at the Bultman Center. 

With the sweep, the Bruins improved to 5-4 on the season. The Raiders dropped to 3-6 overall. 

Joining Schnacker in double figures were sophomore outside hitter Annie Benson with 11 kills and freshman Sunny Bell with 10. 

Defensively, BU was led by Meghan Evans with 15 digs and Ashley Wurdeman with 11 as the Bruins held a 51-43 advantage in that category. 

Junior Jordan Broady directed the BU offense to a .226 attack percentage while dishing out 39 assists, to go along with five digs and two kills. 

The first set featured 10 ties and seven lead changes until the Bruins closed the game on a 9-6 run to take
the opener, 25-22.

The Bruins blew a 24-20 lead in the second thanks to two attack errors and two Raider kills as Northwestern tied the game at 24-24. However, BU responded with a pair of kills from Schnacker to take the set 26-24.

After trailing 2-0 early in the third set, Bellevue dominated the remainder of the frame, holding NWC to a .170 hitting percentage in completing the sweep, 25-16.  


The Bruins open conference play tomorrow night when they host Oklahoma Wesleyan University at 6 p.m. at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
