BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The 16th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team opened the 2011 Bruin Labor Day Classic with a decisive 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-17) sweep over 23rd-ranked Lubbock Christian University Thursday night at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

The Bruins (3-2) will continue tournament action tomorrow with matches against Hastings College at 3:00 p.m. and Viterbo University at 7:00 p.m. at the Lied Activity Center.

Bellevue was led by freshman Sunny Bell with 13 kills. Senior Kali Schnacker added nine kills on .467 hitting and four digs. Senior Maureen Wardian hit .538 with eights kills and a team-high five blocks. 

Junior setter Jordan Broady recorded her third double-double of the season with 27 assists and 10 digs to go along with four blocks while guiding the offense to a .208 attack percentage.

LCU (3-1) was led by Caitlin Kender's six kills and six blocks. 

Mollie Gavin (11) and Meghan Evans (10) joined Broady in double figures in digs as BU held a commanding 42-31 advantage in that category. 

The Bruins hit .289 in the opening set powered by Schnacker's six kills on eight swings with no errors. 

Bellevue recovered from a slow start in the second, trailing 4-0 in early action. Bell paced the second-frame offense with four kills. 

Another four kills by Bell in the third and three by Wardian helped the Bruins cruise to the three-set sweep.
