LA MIRADA, Calif. -- The No. 16 ranked Bellevue University volleyball team was swept by host fifth-ranked Biola University 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-19) in its second match of the Holiday Inn Summer Slam Tournament at Chase Gymnasium.

The loss drops Bellevue's record to 1-1 while Biola improves to 5-1 on the early season.

Kali Schnacker led Bellevue with 11 kills while Jordan Broady dished out a match-high 33 assists. Meghan Evans recorded 14 digs for Bellevue.

Biola out-hit Bellevue .250 to .120 and also held a slight edge in digs, 51-47. The Bruins registered eight blocks, including a career-high four block solos by Sydney DeBoer.

The Bruins fell into an early deficit in the opening set, 17-9, before a 6-1 run cut the Eagles' lead down to three, 18-15, to force a Biola timeout. The Eagles responded by scoring three of the next four points to take a 21-16 edge. The Bruins battled back and cut its deficit down to two points on two different occasions and also fought off two set points before eventually dropping the opening set 25-22.

The Bruins hit -.025, but stayed in the opening stanza by registering five blocks. Bellevue was paced by Sunny Bell who recorded five kills.

Bellevue once again found itself in an early hole to begin the second frame falling behind 13-6. The Bruins fought back and went on a 10-5 spurt midway through the set to cut its deficit down to two, 18-16, but were unable to get any closer falling 25-19 in the second game.

The Bruins hit just .057 and were plagued by nine attacking errors.

The Bruins found themselves in an all-too-familiar situation to begin the third set trailing 11-6 to force a timeout. The Bruins managed to score three of the next four points, but that's as close as they got the remaining of the match falling 25-19.

Bellevue hit .310 in the final set and were led by seven kills by Schnacker, but allowed Biola to have a .405 hitting percentage.

Biola was led by Christine Douglas, Sarah McAtee and Nicolette Mather who each recorded double-digit kills.

The Bruins will conclude tournament action tomorrow (Aug. 27) with matches against Vanguard University (2:00 p.m. CST) and No. 10 College of Idaho (6:00 p.m. CST).
