Bruins advance to MCAC championship with sweep over Flames

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Junior Kali Schnacker pounded 11 kills on .526 hitting and sophomore Jordan Broady recorded her 12th double-double of the season to lead the 23rd-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-16) sweep over College of St. Mary in the semifinals of the MCAC Volleyball Tournament Friday night at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

The Bruins (32-11) advanced to the championship match on Saturday against second-seeded College of the Ozarks beginning at 1 p.m. in the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

Schnacker helped the Bruins hit .294 as a team and Broady dished out 42 assists, while collecting 13 digs and a pair of kills.

Jaclyn Thorson and Ashley Wurdeman each registered nine kills and Maureen Wardian added eight kills on .350 hitting in the Bruins balanced attack.

Ashley Iwanski led the Flames with nine kills.

The Bruin defense held CSM to a .098 attack percentage on the night as Meghan Evans and Katy Gregory joined Broady in double figures in digs with 13 and 10, respectively.

Notes:

  • The Bruins have won five straight matches.
  • The winner of Saturday's championship match will receive an automatic berth to the NAIA National Tournament.
  • Bellevue is looking for it fourth-straight appearance at the NAIA National Tournament
  • Head Coach Trish Siedlik has led her squads to the MCAC Tournament title game in all of her nine seasons as a head coach. She has a 7-1 record in the MCAC championship match.
  • College of the Ozarks won last year's MCAC Tournament
  • Bellevue and College of the Ozarks tied for the MCAC regular season title with 15-1 records.
