BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The 18th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team split its final two matches of the 2010 Bruin/Premier Classic Saturday afternoon at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. BU is now 17-5 overall on the season.

The Bruins opened the day falling to fifth-ranked and undefeated (19-0) Northwestern (Iowa) College 25-22, 25-19, 19-25, 19-25, 15-6. BU concluded the tournament by sweeping William Woods University in straight sets, 25-16, 25-21, 25-22.

The Bruins will return to conference competition next Friday, Oct. 1, when they head to Point Lookout, Mo. for a 7 p.m. contest at College of the Ozarks.

After dropping the first two sets of the match, the Bruins battled back and won the next two sets before falling in the fifth set, 15-6.

The Bruins were led by Kali Schnacker who finished the match with 16 kills, four blocks and five digs while Jordan Broady dished out a match-high 47 assists and also added 10 digs. Katy Gregory led the BU defense by finishing with a match-high 26 digs.

The Red Raiders finished with a hitting percentage of .162 while the Bruins hit just .138 for the match. BU held the edge in digs, 81-70

NC was paced by Hillary Hanno who finished the match with 16 kills and 14 digs.

In the Bruins' final match the tournament, they used a balanced offensive attack to come away with the sweep of WWU. BU was paced by Annie Benson who finished with a match-high 12 kills while hitting .360. Sydney Deboer recorded nine kills and hit .533 for the match and Katie Kuntz also added seven kills.

Gregory and Meghan Evans led the Bruins defense, combining for 24 digs. Broady also finished with a match-high 33 assists and chipped in seven digs.

The Bruins out-hit the Owls .349 to .181 and finished with 12 blocks while WWU collected just four blocks in the match.
