Thorson leads Bruins in sweep over DWU

ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- Middle blockers Jaclyn Thorson and Maureen Wardian combined for 19 kills to lead the 17th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-9) sweep over Dakota Wesleyan Friday night at the Red Raider Classic on the campus of Northwestern College.

Bellevue (2-1) rebounded from a 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-18) loss earlier in the day to sixth-ranked Biola University.

Thorson pounded 10 kills on .368 hitting while adding two blocks. Wardian hit .471 in the match with nine kills and a match-high six blocks. Junior Ashley Wurdeman added eight kills on .412 hitting and junior Kali Schnacker pitched in with six kills and a pair of blocks.

Sophomore setter Jordan Broady recorded her second-straight double-double with 32 assists and 11 digs while directing the Bruin offense to a .309 attack percentage.

Senior libero Katy Gregory led the BU defense with a season-high 21 digs.

The Bruins will conclude action in the tournament on Saturday with an 11 a.m. match against the University of Great Falls and a 3 p.m. showdown with No. 10-ranked Taylor University.
