Bruins fall to No. 5 Georgetown

BELLEVUE, Neb. - The 15th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 26-24) decision Saturday night to No. 5 Georgetown (Ky.) College in the final match of the 2009 Bruin/Premier Classic at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

With the loss, Bellevue falls to 14-5 overall, while Georgetown improves to 22-1.

Kali Schnacker paced the Bruins with 11 kills, while Rachel Muller, who was named to the all-tournament team, added 10 kills and a team-high 18 digs for her 12th double-double of the season.

Jordan Broady dished out a match-high 34 assists.

The Bruins had opportunities in the first set and finished with more kills and digs than the Tigers,  but committed 11 attacking errors and hit just .077 to drop the opening set, 25-18. 

In the second set, Georgetown used a 5-0 run to put Bellevue in an early 11-6 deficit. Trailing 16-10, Bellevue scored four of the next six points to cut the Tigers lead down to 18-14, but they never got any closer as Georgetown finished on a 7-3 run, to win the second set, 25-17.  
 
After trailing 14-8 in the third set, Bellevue used a 9-1 run to take a 17-15 lead capped off by a service ace by Kayla Gaughen. The Bruins had an opportunity to extend the match at 24-22, but four straight points by Georgetown gave them a 26-24 win.  

Bellevue hit just .131 for the match while Georgetown hit .262. The Tigers also held a slight edge in kills, 42-40. 

Georgetown was led by Erica Janszen who finished the match with 14 kills and hit .367.

No. 15 Bellevue will return to action Tuesday, Sept. 29, in non-conference action against No. 13 Morningside College. First serve is slated for 7:30 p.m. at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
