Bruins outlast No. 23 Doane in five sets

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Freshman setter Jordan Broady directed a balanced Bruin attack as No. 11-ranked Bellevue University outlasted No. 23 Doane 3-2 (22-25, 25-17, 25-16, 18-25, 15-10) Friday night in the Bruin Labor Day Classic at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

The Bruins improved to 6-1 on the season while Doane fell to 8-2 overall.

Broady collected her second-straight double-double with 51 assists and 16 digs, both career highs. She also added five kills and two blocks in the victory.

Four Bruins were in double figures in kills including Rachel Muller (16), Kali Schnacker (14), Maureen Wardian (13) and Jaclyn Thorson (10). Muller added 14 digs for her fourth double-double of the season.

Katy Gregory and Gabby Pfannenstiel combined for 41 digs as Bellevue held an 89-71 advantage in that category.

Wardian and Thorson led the Bruin defense at the net as both collected six blocks on the night.

Bellevue raced out to a 6-0 lead in the decisive fifth set, capitalizing on four Tiger attack errors. A kill by Schnacker gave BU a 10-2 advantage as the Bruins cruised to the 15-10 win.

The Bruins will continue action on Saturday in the tournament with a 3:45 p.m. match against Benedictine before concluding the tournament with an 8:15 p.m. match against Midland Lutheran.
