Amaro collects National Defensive Player of the Week honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics has selected Bellevue University senior Jenn Amaro (Mexico City, Mexico) as the NAIA Women's Soccer National Defensive Player of the Week.

One day after earning the weekly conference honor, Amaro became just the third Bruin ever chosen as a National Player of the Week. She joins Mercy Darkoah (Offensive, Oct. 28, 2014) and Caitlin Stier (Defensive, Sept. 13, 2011) in winning national recognition.

Amaro totaled 14 saves in a pair of shutout wins over Iowa Wesleyan and Georgia Gwinnett last week. The wins represented her sixth and seventh shutouts of the season. Her 12 saves against GGC were both a season-high as well as a program record for saves in a win and the third most ever in a game.

Amaro, who has played every minute in goal for BU this season, has a 0.54 goals against average and an .894 save percentage on 66 shots on goal.

Bellevue (10-2-1 / 3-0-0 CAC) hosts Iowa Wesleyan at Papillion Landing on Saturday, Oct. 22 for a 5 p.m. kick-off.
