Bellevue East midfielder signs with Bruins

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University head women's soccer coach Tom White has announced the signing of Layla Vazquez (Bellevue, Neb.) to a Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning this spring.

The daughter of Edmundo and Heidi Vazquez, Layla attends Bellevue East High School and will be playing her final high school season this spring under coach Nate Frankman. During her high school career, thus far she has contributed seven goals and five assists.

She played her club soccer for Evolution under the guidance of Kyle Droege.

Coach White on Vazquez:

"We are very excited that Layla will be joining us this fall. She's a fantastic player and person and will fit in perfect here. It's great to bring in someone from the community who will represent her home town with pride. A big shout out to Kyle Droege who helped us throughout the whole process."

Vazquez joins previously announced signees Shadine Rutherford (Kingston, Jamaica), Rendi Takara-Haraki (Mililani, Hawaii), Emma Madej (Omaha, Neb.) Jenn Amaro (Mexico City, Mexico), Ella Pelletier (Papillion, Neb.), Ximena Jauregui (Cancun, Mexico), Mireia Fernandez (Matadepera, Barcelona), Claudia Gallegos (Quito, Ecuador), Ketlyn Rota (Porto, Portugal), and Lexia Aranda (Normal, Ill.) in the Bruins' 2022 recruiting class.

Bellevue wrapped up a successful 2021 campaign by returning to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time since 2014. Despite an injury-riddled and trying season on the field, the Bruins won their semifinal at the CAC Tournament for the first time to secure a spot in the NAIA Opening Round.
